Weekly Top Performances (10-12-04)

Every week during the season we compile a list of top performances. Most are from last weekend while others are from the weekend before that. Do you think Cal has recruited a decent replacement for junior starter Aaron Rodgers? CCSF's All-American first-teamer Joseph Ayoob, 6-3, 215, completed 14 of 21 for 341 for 4 TDs and scored one rushing in a 59-13 victory over Laney. Joe's heading to Cal next year. Here are some other top performances.

QUARTERBACKS

MONTEREY PENINSULA: Freshman Dustin Long, 6-3, 202, went 33 of 50 for 587 yards and 5 TDs in 48-47 loss to Mendocino.

DIXIE STATE: Danny Southwick, 6-2, 210, connected on 31 of 48 passes for 506 yards, 2 TDs, to earn WSFL Offensive Player of the Week honors, in a 68-51 shootout win over Arizona Western.

MENDOCINO: Chris Cavender, 6-1, 210, was 37 of 51 for 422 yards and 3 TDs with 0 interceptions.

L.A. PIERCE: Freshman Thomas Herringshaw, 6-1, 195, completed 13 of 29 for 379 yards and 2 TDs in a 38-24 win over Ventura

DODGE CITY: Freshman Omar Haugabook, 6-2, 225, completed 23 of 39 passes for 367 yards and 5 TDs in a 40-16 upset of Hutchinson. He scored one TD while rushing for 37 yards and rolled up a total of 404.

GARDEN CITY: Chris Nelson, 6-5, 215, completed 19 of 27 for 344 yards and 5 TDs in a 71-21 crushing of Highland.

SAN FRANCISCO: All-American first-teamer Joseph Ayoob, 6-3, 215, completed 14 of 21 for 341 for 4 TDs and scored one rushing in a 59-13 victory over Laney

CANYONS: Cory Miles, 6-1, 210, went 19 of 29 for 317 and TDs of 44, 23 and 61 yards in a 38-0 win over Santa Barbara.

GROSSMONT: Reilly Murphy, 6-3, 210, standing in for incumbent starter Jarrod Jackson was 22 of 39 for 279 yards in his first collegiate start vs. Southwestern.

NASSAU: Bryan Shea, 6-2, 215, threw TD passes of 54, 50 and 19 yards and ran for another score in a 27-0 win over Dean.

GLENDALE, AZ: Nick Gehrts, 6-2, 210, paced a 42-16 win over E. Arizona completing 17 of 29 for 203 yards and 4 TDs. The performance earned him WSFL Player of Week honors.

RUNNING BACKS

KILGORE: Justin Hardman, 5-11, 190, packed the pigskin 28 times for 256 yards and a pair of scores in a 30-17 win over Tyler.

NASSAU: Freshman Joe Williams, 5-10, 188, ran for 201 yards on 28 carries and 2 scores as his Lions edged Alfred State, 31-30.

N.E. OKLAHOMA: Charles Elix, 6-0, 195, back from two weeks of injury, rushed for 191 yards on 38 carries vs. Navarro.

BUTTE: Freshman Webster Patrick, 5-8, 200, zipped for 186 yards on 23 carries and 1 TD in a tight 22-14 win over Yuba.

FOOTHILL: Allan Webster, 6-0, 235, had 22 carries for 183 yards and a pair of scores plus 2 catches for 43 yards.

L.A. HARBOR: Joe Harris, 5-9, 190, lugged the ball 16 times for 168 yards and 2 TDs in just one half of play vs. Santa Monica. Harbor won the game 41-24. His five game totals: 110 carries for 935 yards and 8 TDs.

SAN BERNARDINO: Freshman Kendrick Harris, 6-1, 200, had 18 carries for 157 yards vs. Grossmont.

SAN JOAQUIN DELTA: Freshman James Miguel, 5-7, 155, carried 21 times for 148 yards and hauled in 5 catches for 69 yards in a 35-38 win over Santa Rosa.

SOLANO: Freshman Simeon Williams, 5-8, 170, rushed for 144 yards in a 35-17 win over San Jose.

SANTA ANA: Dartangan Johnson, 6-0, 220, carried 25 times for 132 yards and caught 4 for 33 (165 AP yards and 1 TD) vs. Orange Coast.

HARPER: Tyrone Simmons had 2 TDs and racked up a total of 243 total yards of offense vs. previously unbeaten Grand Rapids. He had a 100-yard KOR, added a 15-yard TD, rushed for 91 yards on 13 carries and had 4 catches for 22 yards – plus 30 more on KORs.

RECEIVERS

MONTEREY PENINSULA: Josh Morales, 6-2, 214, caught 11 tosses for 250 yards and 3 TDs, including one for 96 yards.

L.A. PIERCE: Ramon Perry, 5-10, 180, caught 7 passes for 209 yards and a TD and returned 4 kickoffs 48 yards (255 AP yards) in a 38-24 win vs. Ventura

GARDEN CITY: Donald Raymer, 6-2, 211, caught 12 passes for 196 yards and a pair of scores vs. Highland.

MENDOCINO: Frosh Clinton Haglund, 5-8, 143, grabbed 11 for 168 and a score.

PASADENA: Kris Riggins, 6-2, 188, had 7 catches for 155 yards, one for 80 yards just 13 seconds into the game vs. Palomar.

DODGE CITY: Jeron Harvey, 6-4, 215, caught 8 for 151 and Jimmy McKee 4 for 106 in what many would say was an upset win over Hutchinson.

NASSAU: Shaine Smith, 6-3, 195, had 5 catches for 139 yards and 2 TDs vs. Dean.

SOUTHWESTERN: Ernie Ballenger, 6-3, 195, had 7 catches for 132 yards vs. Chaffey.

SAN FRANCISCO: Ruben Jackson, 5-11, 185, had 5 catches for 181 and 2 TDs vs. Laney and freshman Lavelle Hawkins, 6-0, 185, caught 4 for 127 and a TD and had 3 PRs for 37 and 1 KOR for 33.

DEFENSE

KILGORE: FS Marvin White, 6-2, 195, made 9 tackles, had a pick for 37 yards and recovered a fumble vs. Tyler and DE Curtis Jones had 9 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

PIMA: LB Mickey Pimental, 6-2, 220, helped sack Dixie with 10 solo stops, 2.5 sacks, 1 assist, a fumble recovery and 4 TFLs. And New Mexico Military SS Danzel Isaac, 6-1, 214, had 10 solo tackles, 2 assists, 3 TFL, and 2 sacks vs. Phoenix. They were named co-WSFL Defensive MVPs.

GARDEN CITY: CB Washington, 5-11, 190, had 4 INTs and CB Justin McKinney, 5-10, 180, grabbed 3 in a lopsided 71-21 win over Highland.

NASSAU: Freshman LB Trevon Rodney, 6-1, 210, had 11 tackles, 4 sacks, and 2 fumble recoveries in team's 2nd shutout of the season.

NEW MEXICO MILITARY: DL Tyler Donaldson, 6-4, 240, made WSFL Player of Week for Oct. 2 by helping hold Pima to 19 points, collecting 9 solo tackles, 7 assists, a sack and a forced fumble.

CANYONS: LB Joey Larocque, 6-1, 215, had 9 tackles (5 solo), a sack and a hurry.

SAN BERNARDDINO: Freshman DB Mike McCoy, 5-11, 185, had a pick, caused a fumble and had 6 tackles and 2 assists vs. Grossmont.

FULLERTON: DT Gabe Long, 6-4, 290, contributed 5 solo tackles and 3 tackles for loss vs. Mt. SAC.

PALOMAR: S Josh Gomez, 6-0, 205, recorded 13 tackles (8 solo) 2 INTs for 81 yards (and a 3rd called back) in Comets' loss to Pasadena

SADDLEBACK: LB Paul Como, 6-2, 240, made 7 tackles (4 for loss), tallied a sack and forced 2 fumbles in Gauchos' 48-10 win over Long Beach.

HARTNELL: Ricky Regis, 5-9, 185, had 3 INTs, returning one for a 34-yard TD, in Panthers' 20-19 win over Sequoias.

PASADENA: Freshman LB RJ McNeill, 5-11, 220, recorded 15 tackles (12 solo), had a 31-yard INT for a TD, and a QB sack.

N.E. OKLAHOMA: Justin Roland, 6-1, 220, made 18 total tackles, had 3 QB pressures and a sack.

GRAND RAPIDS: DE Darryn Moore, 6-6, 225, recorded 4 sacks vs. Harper.

OTHERS

MT. SAN JACINTO: DB Rodney Connor, 6-0, 190, rolled up 134 yards in KOR yardage with a TD and an INT in 30-6 loss to Desert and FS Trey Watkins, 6-2, 200, had 3 INTs.

MT. SAN ANTONIO: WR/DB Jason Martin, 5-10, 190, had 3 KOR for 100 yards, 9 tackles, and an INT.

N.E. OKLAHOMA: PK Jason Dixon booted 4 field goals, including a 47-yarder, against Navarro and totaled 15 of NEOs 33 points.
