Top Individual Performances (10-26-04)

This is our weekly look at top individual performances from around the nation. Palomar running back/athlete Speedy Anthony, 5-5, 175, totaled 197 yards offense in a recent contest: 54 rushing, 32 receiving, 80 on KO returns, and 31 on punt returns. The overall effort included a 54-yard TD run. Meanwhile, in Kansas, Hutchinson LB David Dixon blocked 2 punts, broke up 3 passes and had 10 tackles in 65-0 first round rout of Highland.

QUARTERBACKS

LONG BEACH: Against Cerritos Freshman Alex Aispuro, 6-2, 200, was 28 of 38 for 354 yards with a TD rushing and a TD passing. (Season: 116-212-1,486-6-6)

CHAFFEY: Nick Davila passed for 346 yards and a pair of scores vs. San Diego Mesa. (Season: 133-221-1,893-16-8)

SANTA ROSA: Kevin Ballatore, 6-2, 205, went 24 of 51 for 332 yards and 3 TDs and rushed 10 times for 89 and a score vs. Sacramento. The previous week he was 26 of 52 for 335 and 3 scores, plus 4 for 41 rushing against Foothill.

GARDEN CITY: Chris Nelson, 6-5, 221, went 11 of 15 for 180 and 2 TDs and ran 19 times for 96 yards and an 8-yard score in first round playoff victory over Dodge City, 35-21. It was Garden's 23rd straight triumph over the Conquistadors.

HUTCHINSON: Robert Coates completed 20 of 29 for 277 yards with TDs of 44, 8, 6,and 22 and rushed 9 times for 54 and a score.

BUTLER: Zac Taylor completed 21 of 38 for 267 and 4 TDs with throws to 8 different receivers.

TYLER: Markeith Sanders was 8 of 14 for 207 and 4 TDs and added 107 rushing yards on 13 carries in 49-31 defeat of Trinity Valley.

SADDLEBACK: Freshman Colt Brennan, 6-3, 195, was 22 of 32 for 276 and 3 TDs.

SAN FRANCISCO: Joe Ayoob, 6-3, 215, was 18 of 36 for 265 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT in the 42-18 win vs. Butte in the rain. (Season: 120-206-2,072-19)

GLENDALE CA: Steve Martinez, 5-11, 160, completed 21 of 38 for 246 and 2 TDs in 49-41 loss to Harbor.

RUNNING BACKS

L.A. VALLEY: Edric Prim, 5-8, 200, rambled for 236 yards and a TD vs. Canyons. (Season: 142-857-6.0 avg.-6 TD)

L.A. HARBOR: Joe Harris, 5-9, 160, had 31 carries for 234 yards and TDs of 41 and 41 yards. His 1,211 yards is a school record.

CHAFFEY: Brandon Fractious, 6-0, 190, had 30 carries for 223 yards and 4 TDs.

DIXIE : Freshman JT Diederichs, 6-1, 220, who signed with Washington State last February, rushed for 207 yards on 25 carries and scored 3 times vs. Eastern Ariz. (Season: 157-976 yds.-90 pts.)

GARDEN CITY: After missing 6 games due to injury, Marcus Cross, 5-11, 201, returned to carry 33 times for 197 yards and scores of 4 and 25 yards vs. DCCC.

BLINN: James Johnson played one half but rushed for 147 yards and 4 TDs vs. Cisco. (Season: 124-983-90 points)

KILGORE: Eric Hatchett rushed for 128 yards and 1 TD on 12 carries vs. NE Oklahoma.

SANTA ANA: Dartangan Johnson, 6-0, 200, finished with 184 AP yards (95 rush, 89 rec.) and 2 TDs. (Season: 178-944-6)

BUTTE: Patrick Webster rambled for 220 yards on 18 carries and scores of 9, 35 and 45 yards in 45-14 win over San Mateo and Jason Peters gained 110. The Roadrunners trailed 14-10 at halftime.

SIERRA: Rusty Deaton, 5-9, 180, rushed for 150 yards on 19 carries and scored on runs of 1,4,19 and 26 yards, plus a 54-yard TD catch in a 45-0 blanking of Shasta. After 6 games he showed 147 carries for 852 yards (5.8) and a whopping 22 TDs.

VICTOR VALLEY: Ryan Gilbert, 5-6, 180, zipped for 124 yards on 13 carries as VVC piled up 314 rushing vs. Antelope Valley.

RECEIVERS

SANTA ROSA: Kyle Sammon, 6-0, 205, tallied 8 receptions for 198 yards and 2 scores in 35-13 win over Sacramento.

JONES: Milton Collins caught 8 balls for 126 yards and 3 TDs in 30-19 win over Copiah-Lincoln.

SAN JOAQUIN DELTA: Gilbert Martinez made 7 catches for184 yards & 3 TDs in 60-10 win over Sequoias.

CHAFFEY: Rickey Moore, 6-1, 208, made 13 catches for 175 yards and a TD. (Season: 55-935-5)

SAN FRANCISCO: Freshman Lavelle Hawkins, 6-0, 185, made 6 catches for 129 yards and a score vs. Butte. (Season: 20-451-40)

DEFENSE

TYLER: DE Michael McDonald, 6 tackles, 1 for loss, 1 sack, 2 pass knockdowns, caused and recovered a fumble against TVCC and DT Adrian Haywood had 4 tackles and 2 sacks.

COFFEYVILLE: SS Reggie Nelson, a Florida signee out of HS, had 3 INTs, blocked a punt, had 4 solo stops, 4 assists and a TFL.

BLINN: S Jacob Patek, accounted for 5 tackles, 2 sacks forced a fumble and had 3 tackles on special teams.

N.E. OKLAHOMA: DE Chase Pistole, 6 solo, 8 assists, 3 TFLs, 1 pass knockdown and blocked a PAT.

JONES: FS Corey Cooley (could he be a grandson of ex-Jones coach Sim Cooley?) 11 tackles, 2 caused fumbles and 1 pick.

PASADENA: Frosh DB Marlon Wood, son of USC's "Batman", 5-10, 190, ran back a missed FG 100 yards, had an INT, forced a fumble, recovered a fumble and had 3 tackles in 36-30 loss to Santa Ana.

HUTCHINSON: LB David Dixon blocked 2 punts, broke up 3 passes and had 10 tackles in 65-0 first round rout of Highland.

VICTOR VALLEY: LB Jamiel Van Over, 6-2, 213, had a 22-yard TD after an INT, 3 tackles for losses and a sack vs. Antelope Valley.

NEW MEXICO MILITARY: LB Mizraim Farley, 5-11, 220, 13 solo stops, 6 assists and a sack in 35-14 loss to Glendale.

DIABLO VALLEY: LB Xavier Rivera, 6-0, 198, had 2 sacks, 2 hurries, 5 tackles (3 solo) in 33-15 victory over Modesto.

CONTRA COSTA: Anthony Joes, 6-1, 240 LB, 12 tackles and an assist in 36-0 loss to Yuba.

FEATHER RIVER: S Williams Perkins, 6-0, 193, a transfer from Minot St. had an interception, recovered and forced a fumble, and made 4 tackles.

WEST HILLS: Frosh SS Steve Allen, 6-1, 220, returned an INT 80 yards for a TD, had 45-yards rushing on fake punt, 10 tackles, in 36-12 win over Merced.

MOORPARK: Jason Spratt, 5-9, 175, made 15 tackles (7 solo) vs. Ventura.

SOUTHWESTERN: Freshman LB Stephen Sayles, 6-1, 230, tallied 2 sacks, 2 solo tackles, 3 assists, 2 hurries in win over Victor Valley.

OTHERS

FRESNO: DB Mike Ware, 5-11, 185, scored 3 times on punt returns of 56 and 62 yards and also had 85 yards on a kickoff return in 69-12 win over Merced.

SANTA ROSA: Maurice White, 5-9, 185, rushed for 118 yards and a TD in 35-13 win over Sacramento, and added 7 catches for 50. The previous week he ran for 101, and caught 9 passes for 74 in 36-30 OT loss to Foothill.

MISS. DELTA: PK Todd McGee kicked two 47-yard field goals and another of 36, in 23-21 win over Holmes.

FOOTHILL: Ardell Briggs, 5-9, 180, rushed for 44 yards, caught one for 13 and had 68 in returns plus 2 INTs and 5 tackles.

TRINITY VALLEY: Rob Lee broke school record for field goals, booting one vs. Tyler. He has  connected on 14 of 16 and 25 of 25 PATs. Matt Bryant of the Miami Dolphins held the record.

MOORPARK: Joe Shumpert caught 8 passes for 204 yards, a 23-yard KOR and 1 rush for 12. That totals 239 AP yards in a 21-14 win over Ventura.

EAST L.A.: DB Adrian Magallon made 2 INTs, 9 solo stops and an assist as team ended losing streak of 17 games.
