Cerritos OL Jake Chavira Makes Choice

Cerritos College offensive lineman Jake Chavira is a two-time first-team All-Mission Conference selection and made the JCFootball.com JC Top 101 list in 2001. This past weekend the 6-3, 310-pound lineman decided where he will play football the next two or three seasons.

"I committed to Utah St this past Sunday. I really liked my visit this past weekend and I already know a coupleof people there," said Chavira.

"The program is on the way up and I am going to be there when it reaches the top."

The trip was nice and the coaches impressed him a great deal.

"The coaches were the best there and I have already made a bond with the O-line coach, Hoover. I was going to commit to Oregon State but the coach wanted to make me wait a little while so they can try to get a high school guy," said Chavira.

Kansas State was also an option but Chavira was not comfortable with the distance from home and the fact that K-State signed several other JCs.

"Utah State have been real with me and truthful ... so I paid them back with my commitment."
