SWJCFC Preview: Trinity Valley

This is the sixth in a series of SWJCFC team previews by contributing writer, Mike Montfort. Could TVCC have scheduled a tougher opener than a road game versus powerhouse Butler? Attendees will get to see two of the nation's best defensive tackles in Butler's Paul Griffin and TVCC's Freddie Barnett. Cardinals head man, Mark Sartain, enters his third season at TVCC and conference coaches picked his team to finish 2nd in their pre-season poll.

NOTES: Trinity Valley Community College will host and Sartain will chair conference football meetings the next two years…Sartain and his staff are busy moving into a new, 11,000-square foot football complex recently completed on the Athens campus. The facility includes an impressive weight room as well as spacious training, locker and classroom facilities. Coaches offices have been relocated to the new facility…Among nine returning starters are the SWJCFC's top two receivers in Damien McCradic (25-372-2) and Torey DeGrate (24-384-5), the top passing quarterback in Thomas Cook (123-255-1911-14), and the second-leading rusher in Anthony Carter (156-799-4)…Keep an eye on Waco University RB Eric Ransom…Recruiting emphasis focused on the OL and no less than a 12 candidates will arrive in camp on August 9. Among the most notable are D-I signees Trevis Turner (Colorado State) and Justin Washington (Houston). Joining those two is Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Player James Tyson of Killeen…Washington played in the Bayou Bowl against Louisiana HS stars at Baytown, and in the Oil Bowl against Oklahoma HS stars at Wichita Falls…Allen WR Robert Boone double-signed with Texas State after two-year receiving marks of 44-550-2…LB Jacob Bane played four varsity seasons at 2A Rogers, earned all-state honors three years, and played in the THSCA all-star game at San Antonio. Surprising for a player who, as a freshman, had been diagnosed with a ‘potentially fatal" subdural hematoma that caused severe headaches. Then, he kept pain a secret and popped pills five weeks before getting too sick. No seizures ever were suffered…WR Frazier caught 47-666-10 for Keller Fossil Ridge as the No. 2 receiver behind Texas A&M signee Howard Morrow.
