QB Halzle is Wide Open

Joey Halzle is a graduate of Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, California. He was an invited walk-on to the University of Oregon after his senior year, but opted for the JC route. He is one of the best quarterbacks the JUCO ranks have to offer this fall.

2004 Stats: 4 games, 62-135 for 711 yards with 5 TD and 4 INT

The summer following his senior year, he broke his ankle before attending Golden West and gray-shirted so he did not start at the school until this past spring. Joey Halzle hopes to qualify in December and will show up at his college of choice in the spring with four years to play three. He was a full-qualifier out of high school so his intentions of graduating in December should hold true. At Oaks Christian, he was a first team all-league and CIF selection as a senior. He was arguably the top quarterback at the 2005 JCFootball.com SoCal Combine when he recorded a 4.58 forty, 4.3 shuttle, 28.7 vertical, and 21 reps on the bench at 185.

He breaks down his strongest attributes. "I have the ability to read defenses and I have a strong arm. I can also move the ball on the ground if I have to."

The signal caller is interested in all suitors with regards to recruitment. "I do not have any preferences," says Halzle. "I am seriously wide open right now. I guess you could say I like Wyoming, Colorado and Cal, but really, I am completely open."

He has not yet received any offers or scheduled any official visits. The three mentioned above are some of the bigger schools that have shown the most interest, along with North Carolina State, Texas, UCLA, Baylor, Rutgers, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Cincinnati. Golden West is 1-3 through the first four games.

Halzle would like to major in Business.
