Foothill Conference Roundup (10/6)

Close battles where the order of the day last Saturday in the Foothill Conference. Grossmont, Chaffey, and Desert all escaped with single-digit victories, while Mt. San Jacinto managed a shutout win over Antelope Valley. This Saturday several key games are being played, Grossmont plays at Chaffey in a match-up of the conference's only unbeaten teams. San Bernardino Valley travels to San Diego Mesa with the winner staying in the top half of the conference.

Also, Desert hosts Southwestern and Antelope Valley travels to Victor Valley.

Grossmont (3-0, 4-1) – The Griffens continued their unbeaten streak though the conference by defeating San Bernardino Valley 20-17. WR Michael Omar caught 7 passes for 130 yards while DB Adam Cooper made a success in his first Junior College start by intercepting 2 passes and made a game saving tackle and made 7 tackles in all in the game.  Also making and impact was DB Geoffery Howard who picked off a pass and returned the interception 62 yards for a touchdown putting Grossmont in the lead for good.

The 1-2 rushing punch of RB's Derrell Hutsona and Kevin Smith has combined for 713 yards and 7 TDs. Hutsona also leads the conference in all-purpose yards with 775 yards and 5 TDs. The Griffens lead the conference with the most points at 177.

Plays at Chaffey, game time is Saturday at 5 pm.

Chaffey (2-0, 2-2) – The Panthers slipped passed Southwestern 17-15 to stay unbeaten in the conference. WR Antuan Bloom now has 22 catches for 267 yards though 5 games, while QB Robert Riggs 67of 109 with a 62% completion rating and 832-yards passing. RB Bernard Payton has 237 yards on 30 carries in two games. Payton also has 3 TDs. 

Plays Chaffey, game time is Saturday at 5 pm.

Mt. San Jacinto (2-1, 4-1) - The Eagles shutout Antelope Valley 19-0 last weekend. DB Scott James leads the conference with 6 interceptions doubling his closet completion. QB Matt Ticich is the only quarterback in the conference that has passed for over thousand yards with 1,154 yards and 10 TDs. RB Kevin Slaughter 327 yards on 66 carries on 4 TDs to lead the team in rushers.

The Eagles also have the second most points in the conference at 136 and are tied for third in the conference with Desert at 2-1 heading into their bye week.

Desert (2-1, 3-2) - Desert edged Victor Valley 27-20 to remain in a tie for third place in the conference. RB AJ Scott remains the conference leader in rushing with 597 yards on 132 carries and 8 TDs. Scott's 8 TDs is good enough to lead the conference in scoring. Desert has the third most points in the conference at 133, just 3 points behind Mt. San Jacinto.

Hosts Southwestern, game time is Saturday at 7 pm.

San Diego Mesa (1-1, 2-1) - Mesa is coming off their bye week tied for fifth in the conference with this week's opponent San Bernardino Valley. QB Jake Santos is second in the conference in passing touchdowns, passing yards and passing yards per game. WR's Verlain Betofe and Phillip Gyulai lead the team in receiving, Betofe has 18 catches and 205 yards with 2 TDs while Gyulai has 17 catches, 343-yards and a conference leading 6 TDs

Hosts San Bernardino Valley, game time is 5 pm.

San Bernardino Valley (1-1, 2-2) - San Bernardino Valley is coming off a tough loss to conference leaders Grossmont, 20-17. But SBVC is still at .500 with a 2-2 mark. WRs Jason Hawkins and Marquis Smith lead the team in receiving with both of them having 11 receptions. Hawkins has 121 yards a TD and Smith has 130 yards and 2 TDs. DB Wesley Montgomery leads the team with 3 interceptions good enough for second in the conference.

Plays at San Diego Mesa, game time is 5 pm.

Southwestern (1-2, 2-3) - The Jaguars are coming off a tough loss to Chaffey 17-15 and are half game behind San Bernardino Valley and San Diego Mesa in the conference. RB Larry Richardson is the still the leading rusher for Southwestern 356 yards 73 carries, he also second in the conference with 170 total yards per game. RB Michael Byrd has gained 285 yards on 54 carries and a TD. QB Robert Riggs is 67 of 109 for 832-yards with 8 TD's but he also has 5 INTs. WR Antuan Bloom has 22 catches for 287 yards and 2 TD's to lead the team.    

Plays at Desert, game time is 7 pm.

Victor Valley (0-3, 1-4) - The Rams took a tough loss to Desert 27-20 and remain tied for eighth with their opponent this week Antelope Valley at 0-3. RB's Erik Hardeman and Antoine Randolph lead the team in rushing. Hardeman has 256 yards on 37 carries with 2 TDs, while Randolph has 373 yards on 67 carries and 4 TD's. QB Mark Moore has 5 INTs with a TD but he has 550 yards passing on the season.

Hosts Antelope Valley, game time is 1 pm.

Antelope Valley (0-3, 0-5) - The Marauders where shutout 19-0 by Mt San Jancito. WR Colt DeCasas leads the team with 18 receptions on 247 yards but he's been kept out of the end zone. WR Milton Davis has 14 catches on 169 yards and he too has not visited the end zone. QB John Taylor has 2 passing TDs and 2 rushing TDs while completing 48% of his passes. RB Richard Watkins has 254 yards rushing and a TD while Dominic Cornelius has 233 yards and a TD. The Marauders are last in the conference in total points.

Plays at Victor Valley, game time is 1 pm.
