Hammond will graduate in December and show up at his college of choice in spring of '06 with three years to play two. The lineman took his first official visit last weekend.
40 time: 5.2
Ian Hammond has only allowed one sack this fall and has recorded 17 pancake blocks. The big lineman is mainly being recruited as a tackle. "That is what I prefer to play," he says. "But really, it does not matter to me where I play as long as I am on the field."
When he graces the gridiron, he claims to do so with a cruel demeanor. "I am always looking to get to the second level. I play until the whistle blows, and then some. I have a nasty attitude on the field and a lot of tenacity."
Hammond is originally from Gainesville, Florida, and thus he has grown up a Gators fan. "I lived in Gainesville until the age of 12 before moving to California. I have always been a big follower of Florida."
The lineman did not take the ordinary path to college. "I actually graduated in '02 and took two years off to get my head straight and figure out what I wanted to do. Then I decided to go to college and also pursue football."
Hammond, who tripped Syracuse on October 8th, is also hearing from Marshall, Utah, Mississippi, and Syracuse. "I like those schools, and Florida. Syracuse and Utah are showing me the most attention. (Syracuse) likes me as an offensive tackle and Utah likes me as a center or guard."
He has not yet received an offer.
Hammond would like to major in Kinesiology.
