Huckaby a Leader on #1 Glendale's Defense

Glendale (Ariz.) College linebacker Torey Huckaby (6-3, 205) took two years off from football following his high school graduation but returned to the gridiron in 2004.

A year later, Huckaby is putting up some nice numbers from his defensive spot.

In his year and half at Glendale, Huckaby has well over 150 tackles with several tackles for loss and sacks.

Huckaby prepped at Phoenix (Ariz.) Maryvale before graduating in 2002. He took two years off for personal reasons, but when he returned it was as if he hadn't left.

"I had an offer from Idaho State out of high school, but I didn't take it. Now, I've got some other schools showing a lot of interest in me," said Huckaby.

Huckaby said that Kansas State, Arizona and South Florida all would like him to take official visits and each has said that an official offer would be coming. Marshall and UNLV have also been keeping on eye on Huckaby.

"I'll probably go there at the end of the semester and see those schools," said Huckaby. "Arizona State said they are looking at me to see what I do this fall and they are close to home."

Because he didn't go to school the first two years post-graduation, his clock is still in good shape.

"I have three years to play two. I will have my A.A. in the spring and then enroll in the fall. I have a 2.6 GPA but I just need enough credits to get my A.A." said Huckaby.

Playing outside linebacker for Glendale, Huckaby said that is where he will likely play in college though he wouldn't mind playing free safety.

"I prefer to play free safety because of my size and speed, but most schools see me as an outside linebacker," said Huckaby.
