Prospect Preview: CB Jabari Smith

Jabari Smith, who plays for Arizona Western College in Yuma, Arizona, is a defensive back who many D1 schools are looking at. Gene's Page, an site, is sharing their June 19th interview with us. Here is what AWC assistant coach Chenelle Jones said about Jabari. "He is a big-time player who is a speed guy. Jabari is a low 4.4, high 4.3 guy. He is about 6-0, 175."

Jabari, I talked to your coach (assistant coach) Chenelle Jones a couple of days ago. He gave me a list of players he believes Mississippi State is interested in. He said you are one of those players. Is that correct?
"I have no idea. I have a letter from them but that is it."

I would like to get some information from you. He gave your height, weight and forty speed as 6-0, 175 pounds and said you run the forty in 4.3 to 4.4.
"Yes sir."

You are a cornerback, aren't you?
"Yes sir."

You are a big cornerbacks as far as cornerbacks go.

Where did you go to high school?
"I went to a boarding school in Mayer, Arizona called the Orme School."

During high school, what schools recruited you?
"Just ASU (Arizona State), NAU (Northern Arizona University) and Colorado."

Did you sign with one of them out of high school?
"I signed with NAU out of high school."

What colleges are recruiting you now?
"Really, I haven't gotten any phone calls, only letters. ASU and Oregon have sent me the most, so far. I've also gotten a letter from Nebraska and (Mississippi State) and quite a few others."

Have you received any offers as of right now?
"No, not right now."

Are there any schools you are most interested in at the moment?
"Right now, Division-I. That's all I want to do, play Division-I."

Did you grow up a fan of any particular school?
"Yeah, I'm a big fan of USC (Southern Cal), but I didn't get any letters from them."

When will you graduate?
"I will be a May grad."
