Willingham getting close to decision

After a successful sophomore campaign at College of the Desert, CB DeAngelo Williams is set to take his first visit next weekend to Tennessee and he may add a few offers in the meantime.

"Cal and Syracuse are close to offering," Willingham told JCFootball.com. "They got my transcripts today and they should be offering next week. That's what I expect at least."

Nebraska, along with Tennessee, has also offered and Willingham said the Cornhuskers cancelled his visit earlier this year.

"I was supposed to go (to Lincoln) a couple weeks ago, but we had to reschedule," Willingham said. "Right now I'm not sure if that's going to happen or not. I'll be at Tennessee next weekend though."

Willingham finished the year with five interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery and recovered a blocked field goal and took it 90 yards for a touchdown.

"I had a pretty good year and now I'm ready to move on," Willingham said. "I'm really interested in Tennessee because they're close to home (he's from South Carolina) and because they have a really good track record with sending DBs to the pros.

"Cal is recruiting me really hard right now and coach (Todd) Littlejohn has really been honest with me and showed me what they're all about. I'd get a lot of chances to show what I can do in the Pac 10 if I went there because they're a passing league, so that is really appealing."

Willingham runs a 4.35 and sports a 35-inch and says his best feature is his ability to break on the ball.

"Not a lot of schools play straight man anymore," Willingham said. "I'm confident I can run with any receiver so that isn't really an issue. I'm good in zone though. I can recognize the routes and I'm good when the ball is in the air. I break on it really well."

Willingham will graduate in May and will have three years to play two at the four-year school he chooses.
