Lane ready to set first visit date

One of the more athletic defensive lineman in the JC ranks this year was Citrus DT Martin Lane (6-2, 285) and he's got an offer from a D-1 school as well as some smaller colleges. He had a solid year on the inside for Owls this year and he's getting ready to set up his first visit.

"We had a great year as a team," Lane told JCFootball.com. "We were the Western States Conference champs and I got first team All-Conference as a defensive lineman so that was cool too."

Lane posted 47 tackles, four sacks and one fumble recovery this season and said he's ready to make his mark at the next level.

"Missouri is still my only D-1 offer, but I have offers from Portland State and Texas State as well," Lane said. "I'm supposed to touch base with Missouri tomorrow and set up my visit date, but it will probably be in January I think. We'll see.

"As far as other teams are concerned, Utah was the only other school looking at me, but I don't think that one is going to happen because I won't be able to leave until May. Utah and their staff like to get their JC guys into school in January if they can so I doubt anything will happen with them."

Lane played tackle for the Owls, but he said most schools are projecting him at end.

"I was our fastest lineman," Lane, who runs a 4.8 forty, said. "I can hold the point pretty well and when I rush the passer I have good speed to get the edge."

His strength is why he's so tough against the run as well. He sports a 460 pound bench and he can squat 575 pounds as well.

"I don't care where I play on the defensive line. A lot of the schools have said I can play where I want, but I really don't care. I can play anywhere as long as it's the defensive line."

Lane will have three years to play two wherever he ends up and said if he doesn't like the options he has when letter-of-intent day rolls around he might just wait until summer to sign with someone.

"I won't sign somewhere just because they're my only offer. If I feel comfortable with a team then I'll commit, but if I don't I can wait it out and see what else comes around."
