Benson doing his best

After a huge season as a freshman at College of the Sequoias WR Mike Benson (5-11, 180) thought he would have some choices in which four-year program he would be heading to. Things haven't worked out that way, but Benson is hoping to set some things up very soon.

"The last program I heard from was Kansas State, but that was before Christmas," Benson told "I'm kinda frustrated, but that's how it goes I guess."

Benson had a big freshman season earning himself Freshman All-American honors. However, as a sophomore his production fell of a little bit.

"We had a new quarterback and things just didn't click very well at the beginning of the year," Benson said. "As the year went on we got much better and he started to figure out where I was and what I was going to do in certain situations, but my stats really didn't look that good."

Benson posted 43 receptions for 500 yards and two touchdowns and led the team in that category.

He boasts solid speed stats (4.45), but he's a bit undersized for some D-1 schools.

"I can go up and get it when I need to and I'm stronger than people think," Benson said.

He finishes up this May with his two-year degree and hopes to set up a visit or two this month so he can figure out where he's headed.

"Hopefully some schools want to see me and what I have to offer," Benson said. "I know I can succeed at the next level. I just need a chance to show I can do it."

Wherever Benson ends up he'll have three years to play two.
