JC corner is willing to wait

The recruiting trail can be filled with stories that are head-scratchers and one of the biggest this year is Chaffey CB Deyon McElroy (6-0, 175). He recently visited Wyoming and Syracuse and got and offer from the Cowboys but he's decided that Laramie isn't the place for him.

"The visit was alright, but it just wasn't what I was looking for," McElroy told JCFootball.com about his visit to Wyoming on January 13th. "They showed me around and I liked the coaches, but it just wasn't the right fit. They offerd me on my visit, but I'm not going to go there."

McElroy also visited Syracuse this past weekend, but he came away without an offer from the Orangemen coaching staff.

"That visit was fun and I really liked it up there, but they decided to offer someone else so I'm still waiting," McElroy said.

This past fall, McElroy posted six interceptions to go with 40 tackles and over 20 passes broken up. He says he's a phyiscal corner who can run with anyone.

"I don't get beat deep and I can run with anyone," McElroy said. "I like using my speed to cover guys, but I can be physical too. I think I break on the ball well so I can play zone too. Whatever the school runs where I end up, I think I'll be successful."

McElroy, who will graduate in May, said he'll wait to see what develops over the next few months to decide where he'll end up.

"I want to see what schools they play against and also the track record for the coaching staff sending guys to the NFL," McElroy said. "I also want to look at the depth chart. No matter where I go I know that I'll have to compete, but I don't want to be buried either so that will be a factor."

Stay tuned for more about McElroy as we head into spring practices for D-1 programs.
