Weekly JC Alumni Report

Two full weeks of football are in the books and it's time again for our weekly JC Alumni Report. Take a look at how JC alums performed for their four-year colleges.

Wash. State running back Jonathan Smith (Pasadena) carried 12 times for 121 yards and 3 TDs versus Idaho.

Marty Johnson (Butte) ran for 229 yards in three quarters, with 2 TDs, the fourth-best rushing total in Utah history. Then he sprained his knee in the fourth quarter. WR Paris Jackson (Butte) scored a TD for Utah.

Michigan State punter Jason Daily averaged right about 40 y/punt with a long of 52. He's a College of the Canyons guy in his first year with the Spartans.

West Virginia WR Derrick Smith, who was 'discovered' and essentially offered by WVU after the SoCal JCFootball.com Combine last May had a couple of grabs for 47 yards. He's a Ventura College alum.

I was at Huskies Stadium today to watch San Jose St. versus Washington. Ex Citrus WR Charles Pauley has a HUGE GAME with 8 receptions for 122 yards.

Former Ellsworth CC quarterback Scott Rislov alternated with Marcus Arroyo but still managed 16-23 for 177 yards and no TDs.

Also, WR Kendrick Starling (Navarro) grabbed 3 for 15. He was 4 for 75 on KO returns--looked good back there.

It was fun to see all the former JC guys on the SJSU sidelines, which is where I stood for half the game. Fun stuff.

Purdue's Anthony Chambers (Independence) didn't have a big day receiving vs. Notre Dame, but he did return a punt 76 yards for a TD.

Berin Lacevic, Purdue's PK by way of Garden City, connected on a 35-yard FG and hit all PATs.

They're still playing in Lincoln, NE as I write this...but Utah State RB James Samuel (Pasadena) has rushed 8 times for 36 yards and caught two balls for 22. (so far)

Illinois CB Michael Hall (Bakersfield) returned a fumble 30 yards for a TD against Southern Mississippi in the first half. Michael was a JC All American cornerback at Bakersfield. Hall has 6 tackles on the year.

Univ. of Buffalo WR and West LA alum, Azzam Stallsworth, caught 2 for 14 yards in a win over Rutgers.

Oregon LB David Moretti (Chabot) leads the Oregon Ducks in tackles with 20. Also, 2 sacks and 2 TFL to go with a fumble recovery.

Former Miss. Gulf Coast WR Doug Gabriel (Central Florida) torched Arizona State for 5 catches and 116 yards with 1 TD in a losing effort.

Central Florida LB Chad Mascoe (SW Mississippi) recorded 6 tackles and recovered 2 fumbles against Arizona State. His former running mate at SW Mississippi, DeMarcus Johnson, added 5 tackles, 1.5 TFL, and a sack for UCF.

Jimarr Gallon (Butler Co.) is one of Arkansas' leading tacklers. He recorded 6 against Boise State.

Last year's NJCAA Offensive Player of the Year, RB Rashad Armstrong, carried the ball 12 times for 61 yards helping Baylor to a win over Samford. He also caught 1 for 8 yards. Teammate J.T. Thompson (Kilgore) hauled in one ball for 19 yards. WR Charles Radford (Reedley) was a very late signee but managed to contribute the past two weeks. Against Samford he caught one ball for 18 yards.

CB Chad Barney (Dixie State) has 4 tackles with one pass break-up on the year for BYU.

Cal got the better of New Mexico State, but Aggies CB Robert Canidate (Glendale CC, Ariz.) did his share to slow the Bears. He recorded five tackles.

CB Brandon Gregory (Hutchinson) blocked a punt for New Mexico yesterday, but the Lobos lost in a squeeker. He has been a great contributor this season.

Houston WR Jon Clark, formerly of Ricks, caught 4 balls for 32 yards.

DB Jesse Sowells (Blinn) had a big game for Houston although it wasn't enough to get the win over Tulane. Sowells recorded 7 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 pass broken up.

Idaho RB Malfred Shaw (Sierra) rushed for 34 yards on 7 carries vs. Washington State.

Washington State RB John Tippins (Santa Monica) lugged the pigskin 8 times for 85 yards vs. Idaho.

Ex-Ricks LB Kody Kraus picked up 7 tackles for Idaho. Glad to see him playing D1 ball as he was almost overlooked after being hurt much of 2001 at Ricks.

Kevin Sperry (LA Harbor) led Washington State with 8 tackles and 1 TFL from his ILB spot.

Brad Banks (Hinds) was 18-27 for 256 and 1 TD for his Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Miami of Ohio. One of his favorite receivers is CJ Jones (Garden City), who caught 3 balls for 64 yards and a TD.

PK Adam Benike (Rochester) kicked FGs of 22- and 24-yards for Iowa State in their win over Tennessee Tech.

Iowa State QB Seneca Wallace (Sacramento) was 12-19-1-230 with 3 TD passes.

Senior Kansas Jayhawks punter Curtis Ansel (Garden City) punted nine times for a total of 401 yards (44.6 avg.). His 82-yard punt in the fourth quarter is tied for the third-longest punt in KU history.

Kansas QB Bill Whittemore (Fort Scott) went 22-42 for 225 yards in his first start. He ran for a TD and threw for another. Jayhawks linebackers Greg Cole (Hutchinson) and Leo Etienne (Hutchinson) both had decent games, as well.

UNLV LB Tyrone Tucker (CCSF) led Rebels tacklers with 4 UA and 11 A tackles.

Kansas State RB Daniel Davis (Garden City) had a breakout game vs. LA-Monroe carrying the ball 11 times for 64 yards. Wildcats' QB Marc Dunn (Ricks) went 7-10 for 147 yards and 3 TDs in limited action. "Taco" Wallace (Mt. San Antonio) and James Terry (Butler Co.) each caught a couple of balls and had a TD for K-State.

Ronald McClendon (Butler Co.) carried the ball 9 times for 43 yards on behalf of Ole Miss in their win over Memphis. He was outshone (is that a word?) by KR/WR Jason Armstead (Miss. Gulf Coast) who returned a punt 62 yards for a score. Overall, he tallied 157 return yards on 8 tries. S/Rover Matt Grier (Itawamba) recorded 6 tackles.

Nebraska linebacker Demorrio Williams (Kilgore) is leading their team in tackles during his first season out of community college. He has blocked a punt and has 17 tackles on the season.

Kevin Galbreath (NE Oklahoma) rushed for 144 yards and scored 2 TDs for North Texas to help shut out Nichols State. One of his TDs was on a 69-yard scamper.

Oklahoma LB Pasha Jackson (CCSF) picked up a pair of sacks vs. Alabama; in all he had 3 tackles. Meanwhile, ILB Lance Mitchell (CCSF) recorded 7 total tackles.

SE Missouri QB Jack Tomco (Scottsdale) went 15-23 for 129 yards, including a game-winning TD pass with 0:49 left in the game.

Washington WR Eddie Jackson (Coffeyville) hauled in 4 balls for 45 yards vs. San Jose State.

LB Phillip Perry (Cerritos) notched 6 tackles with 1 TFL, 1 sack, and 1 FF versus Washington.

Kai Ellis (CCSF) had 6 tackles for Washington from his DE spot.

Toledo is rolling along and a big reason for their success is QB Brian Jones (Shasta). This week vs. E. Michigan he completed 12 passes on 8 tries for 155 yards with 1 TD. He also ran one in. Jones' backup, Cedric Stevens (Butler Co.), also threw for 1 TD.

UCLA came from behind to beat Colorado St. yesterday and in the win, DT Ryan Boschetti (San Mateo) tallied 5 tackles.

Colorado State S Benny Mastropaolo (Fullerton) was a very late addition to the roster--invited walk on--but that didn't stop him from getting 2 tackles vs. UCLA.

Texas Tech DBs Jose Hanson (El Camino), Ricky Sailor (Butte), and Raymond Pierce (San Bernardino Valley) are all contributing this year. Sailor has 8 tackles (total) on the year so far. Hanson picked off a pass versus SMU.
