El Camino DT makes commitment on visit

It's been a hectic last two months for El Camino DT Justin Thompson (6-5, 290). He's brought in offers from some of the top programs in the country, but one stuck out in his mind and, on an unofficial visit this week, he made his college choice known to both the coaching staff that was hosting him and JCFootball.com.

"I committed to Miami today," Thompson said proudly while still on campus in south Florida. "Everything was just great here. I like the coaches, I have a good chance of coming in right away and playing and they are a great program to be part of."

Thompson chose Miami over offers from Nebraska, LSU, Tennessee, Florida, Ole Miss, Arizona, Arizona State, Hawaii, Oklahoma State and Oregon State.

"It was great to get all those offers from some of those great programs, but I knew this is where I wanted to be," Thompson said. "I just liked hanging out with the team and the coaches told me I was their number one guy and that they wanted me to be apart of what they have going on down here.

"I've basically hung out with all the defensive guys and Kayne Farquharson who I played with last year at Elco and now he's going here so...it was just the right time for me to do it."

Thompson said he was excited to be done with the recruiting process, even before it begins and he had a specific reason why -- school.

"Now I can concentrate on going to school and finishing up everything and making sure I'm done before I leave in May (of 2008)," Thompson said. "I'm looking forward to being a Cane that's about all I can say.

"I won't be taking any more visits. I'm a Hurricane and I'm excited to get this thing started."

Thompson will have three years to play two when he reaches Miami's campus.
