El Camino LB makes the call

El Camino is loaded with talent this year and one of their lesser-known, but still very talented players is LB Josh Berard (6-2, 220). Colorado offered the playmaking linebacker earlier this week and on Wednesday morning he called the coaches to tell them he wanted to come to Boulder.

"I committed to Colorado this morning," an excited Berard told JCFootball.com. "They offered me on Monday and I thought about it until this morning.

"I called coach (Darian) Hagan this morning and told him I wanted to commit and he said 'are you just playin with me?'. He was really happy and said welcome to the family."

Even though he just got an offer from the Buffaloes, it isn't like he doesn't have a history with the program.

"Out of high school, coach Hagan wanted me to come there and he was trying real hard to get me there," Berard, who graduated from Redondo Union in California, said. "I was really feeling them back then and that just continued up 'til now.

"They were recruiting me back then as a defensive end, but now they want me at linebacker.

Berard had an excellent freshman season for El Camino in 2006 posting 68 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks and 27 quarterback hurries.

"I played weakside and that's where they want me," Berard said. "I feel I can do well either rushing the passer or playing the run or pass. It doesn't matter to me. I just want to play."

As far as recruiting is concerned, Berard was hearing from Nevada, UNLV, Connecticut, BYU and Arkansas, but he said it doesn't matter who offers him now.

"I'm a Buff and that's it," Berard said with a laugh. "I'm from California and I wanted to get away and play where it snows.

"I know that sounds weird because of where I'm from, but I've never been out of the state of California so I want to experience more of the world."

Berard plans to take an unofficial visit in June and said he's looking forward to seeing his soon-to-be home.

Berard will graduate in May of 2008 and will have three years to play two when he arrives on campus.
