Robinson ready to show what he's got

Every year players who decide to walk-on at four-year schools change their mind and head to a junior college to boost their stock in the hopes of earning a scholarship and College of the Sequoias S Calvin Robinson (5-11, 210) is just such a player. He's hoping to have a big season for COS and he's just starting to hear from some four-year programs.

"I went to Sacramento State and just wasn't happy there," Robinson told JCFootball.com recently. "I felt I was better than who they had on scholarship there and felt that I deserved one and the coaches didn't see it that way so I decided to come here to COS and do something else."

Robinson, who prepped at Central High School in Fresno, redshirted his freshman season at Sac State and was a part-time player in 2006 registering 13 tackles as a gunner on special teams and he earned All-Conference honors on special teams and was also named the MVP of Sac State's special teams units.

"I can play safety or linebacker, but I think I'm a better fit at strong safety," Robinson said. "I love to hit and tackle and I'm really good inside the box supporting the run.

"I can cover guys just fine, but what I do best is come up and smack guys in the mouth. I was going to be the number one linebacker on the roster heading into fall camp so I think they knew I could play."

With his time in Sacramento behind him, Robinson is now focused on what lies ahead.

"I'm getting some tape together and the COS coaches have told me they will help me get that out to four-year schools to see what interest I can get," Robinson said. "Right now I'm hearing from mostly D-2 schools so I'm working on my tape to get that out soon."

Since Robinson redshirted his freshman season, when he graduates from COS he'll have two years to play two at a Division one program or three to play three at a D-2 school.

"I really want to show I deserve to play D-1 and that's really where I want to be, but we'll just see what happens," Robinson said.

His speed and strength numbers are impressive – 4.6 forty time and 12 reps of 225 pounds.

Robinson plans to major in Sociology wherever he ends up and hell finish up his two-year degree in December.

We'll have more from Robinson over the coming months.
