2007 Arizona All-Combine Team

Congratulations to this year's 2007 All-Arizona Combine Team. Several prospects displayed great speed under cloudy skies. Offensive and defensive participants were chosen based on overall testing performance, not on their performance in one-on-ones or other drills. (PHOTO: Arizona Western DL Joshua Williams)

Unsigned sophomores -- many of whom turned in great performances -- were not included. The combine was held April 21 at Mesa Community College under cloudy skies and cool weather conditions (can you believe it?).

NOTE: Heights and weights were taken with shoes off. Forties were run on a grass field that was in relatively poor condition; rain softened it somewhat the night before but it was still fairly hard. Short shuttles were run on a better section of grass.

OFFENSE

QUARTERBACKS

Justin Evans (6-0, 193; Mesa CC)
Forty: 4.54, Shuttle: 4.12, Bench: 10 at 225

Kenneth Reinhard (6-2 1/2, 195; Mesa CC)
Forty: 4.83, Shuttle: 4.12, Vertical: 31.4, Bench: 16 at 185

Interestingly, both of these guys could end up playing more WR than QB in 2007.

El Camino (Calif.) QB, Kevin Romero (6-0 1/2, 183), looked best in the one-on-one portion of the combine - but he skipped most of the testing.

If you are a four-year school in need of speed, then check out this running back. AA degree is in hand. a speedy unsigned sophomore, with AA in hand:

Lamont Downing (5-9, 174; Eastern Arizona)
Forty: 4.35, Shuttle: 4.3, Vertical: 36.6, Bench: 9 at 185

Here's a link to the 2006 Arizona All-Combine team. I believe that Victor and Vincent Anderson, brothers who played at Mesa CC, signed with 1AA SE Missouri. Leon Freeman, a solid LB and military vet from Mesa CC, signed with Baylor. Arizona State nabbed Luis Vasquez and Jarrell Holman from Arizona Western and Eric Tanner from Phoenix College. Western Illinois signed Josh Galloway, a defensive end out of Glendale CC. Another Glendale product, Sam Hardy, signed with 1AA Weber State.

LB Andrew Gamboa, another Mesa CC product, signed with D2 TAMU-Commerce.

One notable unsigned sophomore showed up and scored a preferred walk-on gig shortly afterwards. That'd be Arizona Western running back Chris Jennings, who ended up starting about half of last year's games for the University of Arizona after earning playing time in fall camp.

Several others from the All-Combine team have moved on to four-year programs, as well.
