Pearl River is NJCAA #1

COLORADO SPRINGS (Sept. 4, 2007) – NJCAA Football pre-season favorite Pearl River Community College (Miss.) has been voted No. 1 in the first regular season NJCAA / JC Football.com Poll of 2007. The Wildcats, led by head coach Tim Hatten, forced eight turnovers in a 50-10 route of Mississippi Delta Community College on Aug. 30 for their first victory of the year.

PRCC received 103 total votes and five of seven first place votes to take the No. 1 ranking in the first regular season poll for the second consecutive year.

Snow College (Utah) and defending national champion Blinn College (Texas) both received 95 votes to tie for the No. 2 ranking, while Butler Community College (Kan.) stays at their pre-season ranking of No. 4.

Pearl River trailed 3-0 early in the first quarter last Thursday but then scored 37 unanswered points to take down Mississippi Delta. The Wildcats returned two of their eight turnovers for touchdowns, including a 48-yard interception return by Devin McNair on the second play of the third quarter.
The Wildcats will return to action again this Thursday, traveling to Clarksdale to take on Coahoma Community College (Miss.) before taking to the road for a huge MACJC South Division encounter at Perkinston against No. 9 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Sept. 13.

The Badgers of Snow College picked up their second win of the season by handing the Australian National Team an international blow-out loss of 69-0 on Sept. 1. The win over their counterparts from ‘down under’ was their fifth-straight dating back to last season. The Badgers got their first win Aug. 25 when they defeated Air Force Prep 34-12 in Colorado Springs. The Badgers will next host Pima Community College (Ariz.) on Sept. 8.

Defending champions Blinn College won their 14th-consecutive game dating back to 2006 with a 49-0 victory over Abilene Christian University JV. The victory was also their second on the young season. The Bucs kicked opened with a 35-14 defeat of No. 8 ranked Coffeyville Community College (Kan.) on Aug. 25.

Fourth-ranked Butler Community College shut-out Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) foe Dodge City Community College 23-0 on Sept. 1 for their second win of the season. The Grizzlies won their second contest in very different fashion compared to their 29-28 thriller over Kilgore College (Texas) on Aug. 25. The Grizzlies marched 63-yards for the game’s deciding score with just one minute and 18 seconds left in the contest. An interception by Brad Briggs on the final play of the game sealed the win.

Butler will face off next weekend against No. 15 Garden City Community College (Kan.), which could be an early preview of the KJCCC playoffs.
