Accuracy is the key for Toscano

One of the top passers in the California JC ranks is Cerritos QB A.J. Toscano and he's helped to lead his team to a 3-1 record. caught up with the talented signal-caller recently and he talked about his season so far and he also updated us on how recruiting is coming along…

"We're 3-1, but we should be 4-0," Toscano told recently. "We lost to Golden West and it was just a matter of us looking past them and when you do that down here in the Mission Conference, you can have someone come back and bite you and that's exactly what happened to us.

"The one good thing is that it really made guys wake up and realize we can't take anyone lightly and last week we came out and played really well and got a big win."

On the year Toscano is completing 58% of his passes for 620 yards, eight touchdowns and one interception.

"I've really focused hard on my accuracy because that's probably the most important thing for a quarterback," Toscano said. "I really haven't run the ball because I think it's better that I get the ball to my receivers and let them make the plays. They are the playmakers and it's my job to get it to them and let them do what they do."

On the recruiting front, not much has changed for Toscano. He's still hearing from the same schools who contacted him over the summer and he said that's fine with him.

"Right now our season is the most important thing," Toscano said. "I can worry about recruiting after the season. Right now, I just want to get us some wins and we have some big games coming up soon so I really don't have time to worry about anything but that."

Toscano noted that Arizona State, Iowa State, Kansas State, Oregon State and Utah State have all sent letters and made calls since the start of the season.

This weekend Cerritos will take on Fullerton at home.

We'll have more from Toscano in the coming weeks.
