McKenna leads Lackawanna attack

When you are the quarterback of a team that predominantly runs the ball, you aren't going to put up huge stats, but all that matters to Lackawanna QB A.J. McKenna is getting that ‘W' in the win column. spoke to the athletically gifted signal-caller recently and he updated us on recruiting and how his offseason workouts have paid off early in the season.

"I've been really happy with my accuracy and that's something I focused on over the summer," McKenna said recently. "I'm completing 65% of my passes (26 of 40) and I've thrown for over 500 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions."

McKenna has also wracked up 60 yards and a touchdown on the ground, but he said he'll gladly sacrifice his running abilities so the team can win.

"Everything is coming together for us and we're 3-0 so there's no need to change anything right now," McKenna said. "I know I can run and hurt teams that way when I need to, but right now my team doesn't need me to do that."

On the recruiting McKenna just finished his highlight tape and mailed it out to all the schools recruiting him.

"Pittsburgh, Ole Miss, North Carolina State, Tennessee, West Virginia, Rutgers and Syracuse are the main ones that are recruiting me so they got tapes sent to them," McKenna said. "Pitt has really been coming on hard at me and they said they really like me a lot, so I'm hoping once they get my tape they will like it enough to offer.

"Ole Miss has really been focusing on me too and so has N.C. State. (N.C. State) already has a quarterback committed to them, but they told me they still like me as a quarterback and are still looking to offer me in the future."

McKenna and his teammates will take on Nassau this weekend.

We'll continue to track McKenna's process over the coming weeks.
