Harvey talks recruiting

It's been a while since we've been able to catch up with Reedley S Maurice Harvey and things have been busy for the young man from the northern California Juco ranks. He's been hearing from several programs and said while recruiting is important to him, helping his team get wins is what is foremost in his mind at this point and time.

"We've been doing really well this year," Harvey told JCFootball.com recently. "I've had a lot of fun out here running around and hitting people. We're 4-1 and we have a chance to be a good team, but we're not quite there yet. We're getting there though."

For the season Harvey has five inteceptions and over 50 tackles.

"They play me all over, but I mainly play free safety," Harvey said. "I like playing back there because it allows me to read the quarterback and that routes the receivers are running and then when the ball goes up I have the confidence that I can go up and get it."

Nebraska was the first school to offer Harvey and to this date he's pretty sure that's his only offer.

"I'm kinda letting my coaches handle that right now," Harvey admitted. "I want to concentrate on my season and then I can worry about that other stuff.

"Oregon, Florida State, Cal and Clemson are schools that have sorta made contact and they're the ones I'm interested in. I grew up in Florida so being able to go back there and play would be huge and a lot of fun, but I could go anywhere to play – location doesn't matter that much to me."

Harvey is a rangy safety measuring in at 6-3, 205 with good speed (4.5) and excellent leaping ability (36-inch vertical).

"I can run and cover or I can whack you, it doesn't matter to me," Harvey said with a laugh. "My game is about being a playmaker and if I can help my team by laying a guy out and making him think twice about coming across the middle then that's what I'll do, but I'd rather get the pick and give it back to my offense."

Harvey expects to graduate in May, but said he's hoping to be ready by December. Wherever he ends up he'll have three to play two following the season.
