Herchenbach sees recruiting pick up

A quarterback with outstanding physical number who hasn't put up a ton of numbers this fall is Merced QB Reid Herchenbach (6-3, 200). He was impressive at the NorCal JCFootball.com combine and has been hearing from several D-1 programs and he updated us recently on things.

"We've struggled a little bit this year, but we're 1-0 in our conference so we're just focusing on that goal of winning our conference," Herchenbach said recently. "A couple of our receivers have been out and my go-to-guy sprained his MCL, so I've been kinda without my top guys.

"I've only been throwing for about 100 yards a game, but we've been relying on our running game a lot more and I've been running more and managing the game."

On the recruiting front, Herchenbach just got word from the Washington State coaching staff that they plan to attend his game this weekend against Shasta.

"They said they are really interested in me and want to see me run the offense and what I can do," Herchenbach said. "I know they've had some good quarterbacks come out of that program so that's pretty cool to see them be interested in me.

"Oregon State offered me tickets for a game back on October 6th, but I decided to take the time off an rest and heal up."

Other schools making contact have been Arizona State, Boise State and Utah.

"My coaches said a lot of schools have been calling and asking about me and for my film," Herchenbach noted. "But they want me to focus on our season and getting to the playoffs so that's really what I'm doing and that other stuff will sorta take care of itself."

Herchenbach said he plans to be patient and that he wants to take his visits before he makes any kind of a decision.
