Pac 10 school shows interest in Lewis

Athletic outside linebackers are a must in college football and one that is just starting to gain the attention of several D-1 programs is Blinn LB Sterling Lewis (6-0, 230). He's set up a visit and is leading his team in tackles this year. He spoke with JCFootball.com recently and filled us in on all the recent news.

"I've got 50 tackles, six sacks and a pick," Lewis told JCFootball.com after a recent workout. "We run a standard 4-3 or 3-4 depending on the scheme our coaches come up with for that week, but usually we're in a 4-3.

"I play on the weakside and they blitz me a lot. I also have a touchdown because I scooped up a fumble and took it back for a score."

One school turning up the heat on Lewis recently has been Washington State and, in particular, recruiting coordinator Chris Peterson.

"He as down here (Tuesday) and we talked a little bit," Lewis said. "My teammates are up there playing right now (Ken Dunn and Alfonso Jackson) and they said they're having lots of fun up there and that they are both getting some playing time."

Other schools making their presence felt for Lewis are UTEP, UAB, Arkansas and Arizona. None have offered, but Lewis is just now getting his video out to schools.

"I've got a visit set up with UAB on December 8th and they said they are close to offering me," Lewis said. "Washington State has also talked about me visiting, but we haven't set anything up yet and Arizona could be getting close to offering, depending on who they get here in the next couple weeks."

Check back with JCFootball.com in the coming weeks as we follow Lewis' progress.
