Valentine close to record

One of the top JC pass-rushers in this year is Glendale DE Grant Valentine (6-3, 240) and he's getting close to setting a school record in sacks. spoke to him recently and he talked about the possibility of getting his name in the Glendale record books as well as how his season is going so far and how recruiting is going.

"I've got 52 tackles and 7.5 sacks right now," Valentine told recently. "I need five more to get the record for a career here, it's 24, and that would be big for me because when I got here I knew I was a good pass-rusher, but this shows that I can get to the QB more than just a regular player does."

In addition to Valentines impressive tackle and sack totals, he also has 18 quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries while helping lead the Vaqueros to a 4-2 record.

"We need to get a couple more wins and get into the playoffs, but we're playing pretty well," Valentine said. "Our season hasn't gone exactly how we want it to go, but we're playing hard and we've got a chance to make it to the postseason if we get a couple more wins."

As far as recruiting is concerned, Valentine has two official offers to his name -- Kansas State and Ole Miss -- and four other schools have been making contact with two of those programs close to offering.

"Washington State, Tennessee, North Carolina State and West Virginia are the four that were all out at our practices in the past week or two," Valentine said. "West Virginia just talked to me this week and said they are close to offering.

"The coach that was here wasn't the D-line coach, so he wanted to get back to talk to the D-line coach and make sure he liked me, but he said they could be offering me in the next week or so.

"North Carolina State basically said the same thing. They wanted to get back and talk to the head coach and they could be offering me too."

Valentine is a Spring graduate, so all the schools he's hearing from have asked him to visit after his season is complete.

"I'll take all my visits in December and January," Valentine said. "I just want to focus on the season and getting to the playoffs. After that, I can worry about that other stuff."

We'll have more from Valentine in the coming weeks.
