Recruiting still idle for Iddins

It's been a roller-coaster season so far for Santa Ana. After getting off to an 0-3 start, they've rebounded with three straight wins, but now they're staring down the barrel of three straight games against some of the toughest competition on their schedule. QB Mark Iddins has been efficient for the Dons and we spoke with him recently about recruiting and his season so far.

"It's been pretty crazy this year that's for sure," Iddins told JCFootball.com after a recent workout. "We got off to a bit of a rough start. The loss in the first week of the season against Moorpark was tough, mainly because it was by one point and then we lost by a touchdown the third week of the season when we were driving for the winning touchdown and we got a bad snap and the other team recovered and took it in.

"We're 3-1 in conference now though and we've got a tough one this week against Mt. San Antonio that will tell us how far we've come."

Playing in the Mission Conference can be brutal as week-in and week-out teams must face some of the top JC talent in the country. Iddins said he wouldn't have it any other way.

"I actually got recruited out of high school by some northern California schools and when I started to look at things, there just wasn't a comparison with the talent levels," Iddins said. "The Mission is the best and if you want to be the best you have to play and beat the best. That's why I came to Santa Ana -- because I wanted to play against the toughest competition I could and that's definitely what I've been doing."

So far this season, Iddins is completing 51-percent of his passes (102 of 200) for 1,408 yards, 10 touchdowns and four interceptions.

With solid stats like that, one would think four-year schools would be taking notice, but things haven't picked up on the recruiting front thus far and Iddins hopes that changes in the near future.

"It's been kinda weird," Iddins said. "I'm still basically hearing from the same schools as I was this past summer.

"San Jose State is still my only offer and Oregon and Kansas State are schools that have been looking at me.

"I'm going to go in this next week or the week after and put together my highlight tape so I can send it out to some more schools, but really my focus has been on winning and especially this game this week against Mt. SAC. After that I can kinda start to focus on recruiting a little more, but right now that's my focus."

We'll have more from Iddins in the coming weeks.
