Swanson talks recruiting

City College of San Francisco is always loaded with talented players and one of their best defenders is SS Rashad Swanson (6-0, 185). He's gotten off to a good start this season and said he's got two BCS schools turning up the recruiting heat on him recently.

"Our secondary is sort of in an interception drought right now," Swanson said with a chuckle over the weekend. "We're 6-1 though and getting wins so that's probably more important. I don't have any interceptions yet which is sort of frustrating, but I have to let it come to me and I can't force it."

Swanson does have 50 tackles and one fumble recover that resulted in a touchdown.

"I'm playing closer to the line this year," Swanson said. "I can play either free or strong safety, but I like playing up closer and getting in on more plays, but I can make plays in coverage as well. I can do whatever a team needs me to do back there."

Recruiting has been a bit slow for a talented playmaker like Swanson, but two schools have continued their pursuit of him since the summer.

"Ole Miss and Kansas State have both been calling every week," Swanson said. "My coaches said other schools have been calling and asking about me, but right now those are the two that have been talking to me directly.

"They called and wanted my transcripts and they seem like they might be getting close to offering, but they're holding off until they see how things play out this fall."

Swanson and his Rams teammates will take on Foothill this coming Saturday.
