Recruiting picks up for Givens

Holmes OL Karlin Givens (6-4, 295) is an athletically gifted line prospect that is playing on a team struggling to win games. Even though his team hasn't gotten in the win column, Givens has had a good fall so far and teams across the country are starting to take notice.

"We're 0-8 right now and it's frustrating, but our record is what it is we can't do anything to change that now," Givens told JCFootball.com. "Personally, I think I'm having a pretty good season. My conditioning this summer really helped me because I can play all game and I don't wear down this year like I did in the second half of games last year."

Givens plays right guard for Holmes, but said he's open to playing anywhere along the line and that versatility is what has made schools from the Mountain West, Conference USA and the Mid-American Conferences all take a closer look at him.

"New Mexico was calling me and talking to me in the summer, but they really started picking things up with me recently," Givens said. "They said they wanted some film on me and that they are looking at me pretty hard so that's one school.

"Memphis and Ohio are the other ones right now. Both of those schools started calling a couple of weeks ago and they said they are looking to bring in a lineman in December to be there for the spring and that's one thing I have going for me."

Givens doesn't have any offers yet, but all three schools have intimated that they want him to take an official visit to their campus so they can get a better look at him. He will finish his two-year degree in December and will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.

We'll have more from Givens in the coming weeks as he gets ready to set up his visits.
