Two take the lead for Rice

One of the most talented defensive lineman in the California JC ranks, and nationally for that matter, is College of the Desert DE/DT Lonnell Rice (6-6, 280). He's loaded up with offers and he's a key cog in Roadrunner defensive line rotation. JCFootball.com caught up with him recently and he talked about where recruiting stands and his plans following the season.

"We're 8-0 and playing good," Rice told JCFootball.com. "We've got a tough one this week against Antelope (Valley) and that will be a good one this weekend definitely."

Rice has played in six games this year, sitting out two games due to a family matter, but has managed to post two sacks and 10 tackles while fighting off double and sometimes triple-team blocking.

On the recruiting front, Rice has six offers – Arizona, Oregon, Texas A&M, Kansas State, Ole Miss and Oregon State – and a couple of other schools have started to take notice as well.

"California and San Diego State are the other two that are making contact and have told me they like what I bring to the defensive line," Rice said. "It's still pretty early in things and I want to start setting up my visits here pretty soon, but schools have time right now.

"Oregon and Kansas State are my two leaders and they're the ones that I'm looking to visit first. I haven't decided yet, but I'm leaning toward setting up a visit to Oregon on November 3rd, but I haven't officially set it up yet.

"Both of those schools talk to me every week and they tell me they love my versatility and that I could play defensive end or defensive tackle. KSU especially has shown me how much they want me and need me by telling me where I would be used for sure that that's pretty re-assuring to me. I want to investigate Oregon more to know what their plans are."

We'll have more from Rice in the coming weeks as he sets up his official visits.
