Avery gets close to making a decision

Fullerton WR Marquis Avery (6-4, 190) had an outstanding season for the Hornets and he just took a visit to a MAC school this past weekend. Did he make a commitment? Not quite, but he told JCFootball.com on Monday night that he's close and he could be deciding something in the very near future.

"I went to Akron this past weekend and it was a lot of fun," an excited Avery told JCFootball.com. "I just loved the whole experience. From the facilities, to the coaches, to the players, it was just great and I felt really comfortable there.

"I didn't commit, mainly because I wanted to just let it sink in, but I think there's a 90-percent chance that I will end up committing there."

So what is holding Avery back?

"Well, I have a visit to Kansas State and to Utah in January and I want to check with those coaches and see where I stand with both of those staffs," Avery said. "I will be talking to them later this week and depending on how things come out with them, I will either hold off on committing or I will commit to Akron."

Avery finished the season with 60 catches for 766 yards and seven touchdowns this season and was a dynamic performer out wide for Fullerton.

"I can do whatever a team needs me to do," Avery said. "I like getting down the field and making plays and being a threat from anywhere on the field."

Wherever Avery ends up, he'll have three years to play two when he steps on campus.

We'll continue to track Avery's progress in recruiting over the next few days and update things if they change.
