Conley is an underrated center prospect

It's a shame, but talented players all over the JC ranks get missed every season by D-1 schools and then end up at a lower-level of competition and become a standout. One player who deserves more recruiting attention than he's getting is Allan Hancock OL Luke Conley (6-3, 290) and he's hoping that getting some tape out soon will start to generate more D-1 interest.

"It's been a little frustrating, but I'm working on my film right now to get out to some schools," Conley told earlier this week. "I'm going to get the tape out to most of the schools out here on the west coast.

"Schools like San Diego State, Stanford, Cal, Boise State and schools like that."

In fact, the Boise State coaches have asked Conley to walk-on with the chance of earning a scholarship in the future, but he's hoping to get his college paid for if he can get some more looks.

"I'm pretty versatile and I think I can play pretty much anywhere on the line," Conley said. "I played tackle in 2005 and then last year, during spring ball I developed a blood clot in my brain so I had to redshirt and then this past year I played center for us.

"It was a big change for me because I had never played center before, but I really think it suited my personality better because I like to be in charge and to be able to direct things and because you're more physical and you take it to guys more inside than you do outside because you are getting into pass sets most of the time."

Conley earned 1st Team All-Conference honors in 2005 and in 2007 for his work along the line and his head coach, Chris Dutra said recently he thinks teams are missing the boat on Conley.

"He's solid and I can't figure out why no one has gotten on him," Dutra said. "All league at both of the positions he's played is pretty telling on the kind of player that he is."

Conley is hoping to get a medical redshirt for the 2006 season, but if he doesn't he will have two years to play two wherever he ends up. He can sign in December so he hopes to have some more interest shown in the very near future.

We'll have more from Conley over the next few weeks as he gets closer to making a decision on where he will end up.
