Heun is a hard-working linebacker

A productive linebacker who isn't getting much attention at this point in the recruiting season is CCSF's Jake Heun (6-2, 250). He played a key role on the National Champions' defense and was overshadowed by a teammate who's gotten a lot of interest, but he's hoping that some new highlight film will help get him noticed a little more.

"Me and Gerald Williams played side-by-side most of the year," Heun said. "We both played inside when teams were in the ‘I-formation' and then when it was two-backs I moved to the weakside.

"I'm much better against the run, but I can get out and run and play the pass if I need to. My instincts really take over against the run though. I'm strong and I can shed pretty well and then I can make a play on the ball-carrier."

Heun runs the 40 in 4.6 seconds and he said that allows him to make plays all over the field.

"I had about eight to 10 tackles per game," Heun said. "I think I had over 80 tackles and I had three sacks, one interception and four forced fumbles as well.

"I don't get cut much because I'm good with my hands and I can pursue really well because of my speed."

Heun prepped in Alaska and didn't get a lot of attention and knew that CCSF was the place he should head to play some big time JC football as well as have a chance of getting noticed.

"Nebraska, Kansas State, Portland State and a few other schools have been recruiting me and I need to get some new highlight film out to them," Heun said. "Last year I played fullback because my coaches wanted to get me on the field, but this year I made the switch to linebacker.

"When my coach and I were sitting down to update my film, we popped it in and saw that all I had was couple of fullback clips and that might be why I haven't gotten more interest so I'm getting that ready to go and I'm going to be mailing out a bunch of them to different schools."

Heun was a full-qualifier out of high school so he can leave in December and be on campus at his next school in January with three years to play two.

We'll continue to keep track of Heun over the next few weeks to see if anything changes with his status.
