Dempsey is a hot linebacker prospect

One of the better linebacker prospects from the California JUCO ranks this year has been College of the Sequoias LB Jon Dempsey (6-2, 220) and recruiting has really picked up the past couple of weeks. He recently took a visit to a Big 10 school and he talked about that plus his two upcoming visits next month.

"I had fun up at Michigan State last weekend," Dempsey told earlier this week. "It was a lot of fun. The facilities were great and the players and coaches were really cool and they made me feel really welcome.

"East Lansing is okay, but it's not really what I'm used to, but honestly, it's more about the feel of the program and the coaches and the players and on that level it was really good for me."

Up next on Dempsey's visit itinerary will be visits to Louisville (January 11th) and Memphis (January 18th).

"I've been looking hard at Louisville and Memphis just started coming on recently and they've been showing me a lot of attention," Dempsey noted. "UAB just offered me this past week and Portland State is another school that has offered that I'm looking at."

Dempsey is an outstanding athlete who made plays all over the field for COS this past season, posting over 70 tackles, 12 tackles-for-loss, one sacks, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

"I had a good season, but we struggled some in getting wins," Dempsey said. "I have good speed (4.6) and my strength is good (325 pound max on the bench) and that really helps me shed blockers and make plays.

"My coaches say I have good instincts and that's what really helped me to break up plays before they started.

"I led our defense in tackles this year and we had some talented guys, so that was a nice little goal that I acheived this year."

Dempsey expects to graduate in May and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.

We'll continue to track his recruiting over the next couple months as he gets closer to making a decision.
