DeCordova makes commitment

One of the top run-stuffing defensive tackles in the California JUCO ranks this year was El Camino's David DeCordova (6-1, 280), but because he was surrounded by top prospects he didn't get the notice of the others. Two schools stepped forward with offers recently and after taking visits to both schools, Decordova made his decision late on Sunday night.

"I gave UAB a solid verbal last night," an excited DeCordova told JCFootball.com on Monday afternoon. "I'm just really excited to be a part of their program there. I took a visit to check them out on December 8th and the coaches there just made me feel comfortable and wanted and the players were all really cool.

"I just really fit in there and it's a different environment than what I'm used to so it will be a great experience."

DeCordova took a trip to Louisiana-Lafayette this past weekend and said he enjoyed himself, but just didn't see himself playing there.

"UAB was just the right fit," DeCordova said. "Louisiana-Lafayette was a cool school, but I just didn't get the same comfort level there that I had with UAB."

Another school that DeCordova might check out in January is Washington State, but at this point he may not take that visit even if they offer.

"I don't know because they just changed coaches and I met with the defensive line coach last week when they came down to meet with our coaches and stuff, but I just don't know if things will work out to visit them," DeCordova said. "I might be open to a visit, but my commitment to UAB is solid so I'm not sure what would happen if they wanted me to trip up there."

DeCordova will sign his letter-of-intent in February and arrive on campus in June with three years to play two.
