Swanson is headed to Hofstra

After two standout seasons for one of the top JC programs in the country, CCSF S Rashad Swanson (6-0, 185) seemed like he was destined to play D-1 ball at a BCS school, but things didn't work out that way. After months of tepid recruiting by several programs, Swanson made the call this past week and said yes to a D-1AA power on the east coast.

"I'm going to Hofstra," an excited Swanson told JCFootball.com this past weekend. "They were the school that offered me and they showed me the most interest and they run a good defense up there and they said they may use me at corner as well.

"Kansas State and Arizona State both were recruiting me, but they sort of fell off and didn't show me much attention so I took a trip to Hofstra and just felt like it was the best opportunity for me.

"I could have waited and seen if someone wanted to offer me, but I wanted to get on with my career and my life and Hofstra is a good school where I think I can succeed. My coaches feel that way too."

For the season, Swanson finished with over 70 tackles, 10 passes broken up and one fumble recovery that went for a touchdown.

"I'm playing closer to the line this year," Swanson told JCFootball.com back in October. "I can play either free or strong safety, but I like playing up closer and getting in on more plays, but I can make plays in coverage as well. I can do whatever a team needs me to do back there."

Swanson signed his letter-of-intent on December 19th and he will enroll in January with three years to play two when he arrives on campus.
