Lots of interest for Filler

One of the top JC linebackers who doesn't have an offer at this point is San Mateo's Kurt Filler (6-2, 220), but he recently set up a visit with a Big 12 school and there are several other D-1 schools looking his way as well. JCFootball.com caught up with Filler recently and he updated us on recruiting and where things stand at this point.

"Now that we're past the early signing period a lot of schools have been calling my coaches and talking to them about me," Filler told JCFootball.com shortly before the Christmas holiday. "I don't know all of them, but my coaches said that they are getting a lot of requests for film and my stats and my coaches said that those schools would be calling me after the first of the year."

Even though he doesn't have an offer under his belt, one school has stepped forward and offered him an official visit and there is a good chance they could offer on that trip.

"Kansas State wants me to visit on January 18th," Filler said. "They said they will know what's up when I come out there or hopefully before that, but they said they like my playmaking abilities and that I can play almost anywhere at linebacker."

This past season, Filler totalled over 80 tackles, five sacks, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries while playing alongside two other very talented linebackers.

"Me and Andre (Portis) and Hanson (Sekona) had a friendly competition," Filler said. "We didn't want to be outdone by the other guys so we worked that much harder to make plays and it really benefitted us because it pushed us to be the best we could be and it helped our team out as well."

Filler expects to graduate in May and will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
