Two visits set for Harvey

One of the best safeties in the Cali JUCO ranks the past two seasons has been Reedley's Maurice Harvey (6-3, 190), but he hasn't gotten a lot of attention from four-year programs. He recently set up two visits though and he's hoping those visits lead to offers.

"Recruiting isn't going how I thought it would go," Harvey told earlier this week. "My coaches said they're surprised I haven't gotten more attention by now, but it is what it is so I just need to focus on the schools looking at me and hopefully something will come of it soon."

The two schools recruiting Harvey are Syracuse and Akron and both recently set up official visits with the playmaking safety from northern California.

"I'm going to Syracuse on January 11th and Akron on the 18th," Harvey noted. "Both of them like me at free safety, but Akron said I could end up playing corner if they need me to.

"I'm pretty much open to playing anywhere they want me to play, but I really enjoy playing free safety because I think I'm good when the ball is in the air and I can make plays and be physical with receivers."

Harvey was named First Team All-Conference in both 2006 and 2007 and led the state in interceptions with 10 each season. He also led Reedley this past season in tackles with 68 and also blocked a kick.

"I'm a playmaker, pure and simple," Harvey said. "I can do whatever a team needs me to do to be successful."

We'll continue to follow Harvey's progress over the next few weeks as he gets close to making a decision.
