Waiting game for Blea

A wideout in the California JUCO ranks that has flown a bit under the radar so far this recruiting season has been Fresno City WR Jonathan Blea (6-4, 205), but he's hoping that getting his tape out in the near future will get more looks. He was hearing from two BCS programs before coaching changes derailed those talks and now he's just being patient as he lets recruiting run its course.

"Washington State and Nebraska were both recruiting me before their staffs got fired and now I'm not really hearing from anyone," Blea told JCFootball.com recently. "The coaches who were recruiting me at Nebraska have been talking to me about coming to Western Carolina, because that's where they ended up, but that's not just the right fit for me so I'm not going to go there."

Blea's size and speed (4.5) make him an intriguing prospect in the redzone for an offense and he totaled 38 receptions for 460 yards and five touchdowns this past fall.

"I'm pretty physical and I love it when a DB comes up and tries to press me," Blea said. "I'm not one of those guys who shies away from contact. I really like getting physical and using my size to outmatch guys I'm going up against."

Blea was a full-qualifier out of Yosemite in Oakhurst, Ca., but didn't get many looks after and standout career for the Badgers.

"Coming to Fresno City was the best situation for me," Blea said. "When I didn't get much recruiting interest, I looked at where they were as a program and they always are challenging for the state championship and since I came from a school that was always a winner, that's what I wanted to be a part of."

Blea said he and his coaches are looking to send out tape to as many schools as they can over the next few weeks hoping to get more looks before he has to make a decision.

Wherever Blea ends up he'll have three years to play two and he'll finish his two-year degree in May.

We'll continue to follow Blea's progress over the next few weeks and update things as they change.
