Toth decides to walk on at Toledo

Sometimes to JC players go overlooked just enough to make it necessary to walk on with a program that has playing time available for the taking. Grand Rapids C Nick Toth (6-4, 295) is a player that was getting looked at by a lot of Big 10 schools out of high school, but he got lost in the shuffle and now he's decided to walk on at Toledo and it's because he can come in and compete right away.

"I'm going to walk on at Toledo," Toth said. "I was hoping to get a scholarship offer and I actually turned down a full-ride to Central Connecticut which is a 1AA school because it just wasn't a good fit for me.

"I had a few D-1 schools offer me walk-on opportunities because they knew I was a highly recruited guy in high school, but I didn't make grades. So a lot of schools were trying to get me to walk on, but Toledo was the best fit for me."

Toth noted that the Rockets coaching staff has told him they like him at either center or guard.

"They started a redshirt freshman last year, so they will have an open competition for playing time next year," Toth said. "I'm open to playing anywhere they need me to play, but it really just came down to the fit and the chance to play and that's what I'm going to go in and do."

Southern Mississippi, Troy, Rutgers and Buffalo were other schools in the hunt for Toth's services.

Toth will receive his two-year degree in May and he'll have two years to play two when he sets foot on campus.
