Herchenbach could be close to getting offered

One of the top unsigned sophomores still looking for a four-year school is Merced QB Reid Herchenbach (6-3, 200), however things have been picking up on the recruiting front for the talented signal-caller. Read on to find out which school could be close to offering...

"Louisiana Tech has been talking to me quite a bit," Herchenbach told JCFootball.com recently. "They said they are very interested in me and they only have a sophomore and a redshirt freshman coming back because their senior quarterback graduated.

"Basically, it's going to come down to me feeling comfortable out there and them offering me. If that happens, I'm probably going to go there."

Herchenbach had a solid season under center for Merced completing 57.7% of his passes for over 1,500 yards, 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

"We relied a lot on our running game this year so I didn't get to put up stats," Herchenbach said. "It's okay though. It helped me learn how to manage the game better and to be a leader."

Herchenbach had a lot of schools looking his way this past fall as Washington State, Arizona State, Boise State and Oregon State all were talking to him at one point or another, but nothing ever materialized.

"It's a little frustrating, but it is what it is," Herchenbach said. "You can either be upset about it and let it get you down or you can work through it and meet the challenge head on."

Herchenbach already has his two-year degree so he can leave school at any time and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.

We'll continue to track his progress over the next few weeks and update things as they change.
