Evans will stay at El Camino one more year

El Camino got some good news late this week when CB Mike Evans (5-11, 185) said he was going to stay with the Warriors for another year and help get them back to the playoffs. JCFootball.com spoke with Evans recently and he talked about his decision and some new recruiting news as well.

"I'm staying," Evans said. "I just thought it was the best situation for me. Memphis is a good school and they said they liked me enough to honor the scholarship for next year so I already have that in my pocket.

"I wanted to come back and play with these guys here. I mean, they're my friends and my family and I wanted to play for another year here and finish what I started."

Evans had been contemplating committing to Memphis after his official visit there late last month. His full-qualifier status out of high school made that possible. However, now he's got some BCS schools looking at him as well.

"Oregon State was down here and they liked me a lot," Evans said. "Their DB coach up there told me he's going to come down and watch us during spring and if he likes me, he's going to offer.

"Arizona State has also been sending stuff, so I have a couple of other schools looking at me and I hope I'll have some other ones too after spring ball."

Evans was a part-time player for El Camino this past fall, posting 19 tackles, and there is a very good chance he could be a starter at one of the top JC programs in the state of Calfornia.

We'll continue to track Evans over the next few months and update things as they change.
