Matthews hauls in first offer

We were hoping to check out L.A. Harbor WR Chris Matthews (6-5, 210) at the combine this past weekend, but a minor injury forced him to be a spectator instead. We talked with him briefly though and he updated us on recruiting and mentioned he pulled in his first offer late last week.

"Akron offered me on Thursday," an excited Matthews said while watching his teammates perform. "It was great because I wanted to get that first offer out of the way and they said they liked my game and what I brought to the offense."

Besides the Zips, the other schools showing Matthews the most interest include Oregon and Arizona.

"Both of them came out to watch us practice last week and they both seemed interested," Matthews said. "Oregon actually said they wanted to check me out some more and that they were going to come back.

Last year, Matthews hauled in 32 receptions for 529 yards and four touchdowns while playing in only eight games.

We'll continue to track Matthews' progress over the next few weeks as his recruiting continues to pick up steam.
