Cardenas still waiting on first offer

With the plethora of talented JC wideouts across the country, it's easy to overlook some that might not be as flashy, but they put up numbers when they step on the field. Santa Ana WR Matt Cardenas (6-1, 204) had a huge freshman season for the Dons and he's been hard at work this offseason to add muscle and speed to his already impressive resume.

"I'm up to 204 right now and I feel a lot stronger and faster than I was last season," Cardenas said. "I've been in the weight room almost every day and I've been out running sprints and doing speed drills."

As a freshman in 2007, Cardenas finished the season with 44 receptions for over 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns and was named First Team All-Conference as a wideout and Second Team All-Conference for his kick return duties while also being named the Dons' Offensive Player of the Year.

While those are impressive numbers, Cardenas is still waiting for his first offer.

"I don't have any offers yet, but a couple of schools were out during spring and they are interested in me now," Cardenas said. "I had Arizona State, Oregon and Oregon State looking at me before spring ball and now schools like Akron, UCLA, California, Hawaii and San Jose State have started to show me interest.

"I'm open to anyone that wants to recruit me, but if I could stay out west, that would be great. I'll play wherever I have the best chance to play though, so I'm open to anyone."

Cardenas is still on pace to graduate this December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
