Myers hauls in first offer

A big, physical running back is a hot commodity right now in most offenses as programs are using more one-back sets. Palomar RB Leilyon Myers (6-0, 237) has been working hard to prove he isn't just a bulldozer, but that he also has some shake-and-bake. JCFootball.com caught up with the talented back and he updated us on his offseason and talked about his first official offer...

"Colorado State offered me a little while ago," Myers told JCFootball.com. "They offered my teammate (Maurice Patterson) and after they watched his film, they called my coach and asked for my film and after they watched it they called me and they said they liked me a lot so they offered."

In addition to his offer from CSU, Myers is also hearing from schools like California, Kentucky, Syracuse and TCU among others.

"LSU actually sent me a couple of things, but I'm not sure how interested they are," Myers noted. "I'm still considering everyone. I was thinking about going to Arizona State this fall, but it just wasn't going to work out and I haven't heard from them in a while, so I think they might not be interested anymore.

"Washington State and Washington are other schools I'm interested in, but neither one of them has talked to me in a little while, so they might not be interested anymore either."

Myers has been hard at work in the weight room and out on the field, dropping his weight about five pounds on his way to his goal weight of 232 pounsd by the start of the season.

"I want to keep my strength, but I wanted to be a little bit quicker," Myers said. "I've been running 4.55 forty times and I think my quickness will be better at the weight I am going to play at."

Myers had a solid freshman campaign for Palomar in 2007, rushing for 869 yards and 13 touchdowns while catching eight passes for 126 more yards and another score.

For his efforts he received First Team All-Mission Conference honors, team MVP honors and was nominated as a JC Gridwire All-American.

We'll continue to track Myers' progress over the coming weeks and months and update things as they change.
