Two visits and another offer for Russell

We've been following the progress of Pierce CB Chaz Russell (6-0, 200) all summer and his recruitment could be coming to a close very soon. He's already got one official visit set up with a MAC school this coming weekend and he could be visiting a Conference USA school the following weekend. He also recently received an offer from a Big 12 school, so he knows he's got some decisions to make...

"I'm going to take an official visit to Akron this coming weekend," Russell told on Monday evening. "Basically, they have been on me really hard and they want me to come out and they've been telling me how much they like me, so I'm going to head out there this weekend and check them out.

"I'm probably heading out to Memphis next weekend on an official visit, but I haven't set it up yet. I just need to get in touch with the coaches."

Both Akron and Memphis have been on Russell for over two months, but a Big 12 has made it known they like him as well.

"Kansas State offered me real recently as well," Russell said. "They want me to come in this fall to help them out, so I'm thinking hard about possibly taking a visit to see them after my Memphis visit.

"Right now it's sorta up in the air, but they play in the Big 12 and that's a big deal to me."

As a freshman in 2007, Russell made the transition from offense to defense and he managed to wrack up 35 tackles and one interception while missing one game with a minor hip injury.

Should he sign with one of the schools who are making a push on him this summer, Russell would enroll for fall quarter and he'd have four years to play three once he steps on campus.

We'll continue to track Russell's progress and update things as they get closer to being finalized.
