El Camino is home for High

Every year, players from four-year programs move to the JC level in the hopes of jump-starting their football careers and to get a fresh start. Current El Camino DT Tim High (6-3, 310) signed with UNLV out of high school, but after spending two full years with the Rebels, the young man from Los Angeles decided he needed to take the JC route to find the happiness the game brought him before.

"UNLV was my only offer out of high school," High told JCFootball.com. "I decided to go there because they were a young program and I thought we would improve, but after a few years there, I just didn't see the improvement and I wasn't enjoying my time there, so after spring ball, I decided to transfer to El Camino.

"A couple of my teammates at UNLV were from El Camino and they told me about the program here and the coaching staff. I think it'll be a good move for me."

High redshirted as a freshman in 2006 and saw limited time in 2007 in the rotation at defensive tackle.

"I can play the three or the one-tech defensive tackle spot, it doesn't really matter to me," High said. "I've been working hard on my speed and quickness and my endurance because I want to be a four-quarter defensive lineman.

"The more endurance I have and the stronger I can manage to be toward the end of the game, that will allow me to beat my opponents late in games and that could make the difference in wins."

Besides his excellent size, High also has impressive strength, putting up 225 pounds 23 times on the bench press while also managing a 680 pound squat.

On the recruiting front, High said he's hoping schools realize he's available in December, following the season.

"I'm hoping to get some tape out and to let coaches know that I'm available again," High said. "I'd like to stay in the Pac 10 or out west here in the WAC or the Mountain West, but I would go anywhere I had the best chance to play."

As stated above, High will finish his AA degree in December and he'll have two years to play two wherever he ends up.
