Bulls commits to play at UAB this fall

It happens every year, players expect to return for their sophomore seasons and then a four-year school comes along and says they need them immediately. Such is the case with Blinn OL Greg Bulls (6-3.5, 295) who was expected to be one of the leaders of the Buccaneers' offensive line this fall, but an offer from UAB changed things last week and now he's headed to Birmingham to play this fall...

"I committed to UAB last week," an excited Bulls told JCFootball.com on Monday night. "They offered me and they said they needed me to come right in and play, so I signed and I'm heading there this weekend to get registered and to get started with fall camp."

UAB was Bulls' only offer, but he had just started to hear from schools like Oklahoma, Oregon State and Kansas as well.

"I'm pretty much focused on being a doctor and they have a great medical research facility," Bulls, who carries a 3.7 GPA, said. "They have a good football program there and with the combination of football and education, it was just the best situation for me.

"When I committed the coaches there were really excited. They like me to play outside this fall, but eventually they want to work me back inside.

"I just want to play, so I couldn't care less where they want to line me up."

As a prep in Lubbock, Texas, Bulls was a standout on the football field as well as in the classroom, but his prowess in both areas didn't result in an offer.

"TCU was close to getting me an offer, but things just didn't work out to go there," Bulls said. "When that didn't work out, I decided to go to Blinn because I had some friends who were already committed to going there and I really had a lot of fun playing there."

Bulls played mainly inside in high school, but the Buccaneer coaches thought he had the feet to move outside.

"People have always told me I have great feet and that's what sets me apart from other linemen I think," Bulls said. "This summer I've been working on my strength and on my explosiveness.

"I have a 350 pound bench and a 550 pound squat, so that's really been a focus for me."

Since Bulls is enrolling this fall at UAB, he'll have four years to play three starting this season.
