Carpenter has his eye on the Pac 10's number one wide receiver this year is College of the Canyons' Hayo Carpenter (5-11, 175). He's explosive and he's versatile and he's already got several offers to his name, however, he's got his eye on at least one Pac 10 program that has made a big impression upon him.

"Things have been coming along," Carpenter told recently. "I'm in the weight room and out on the field five or six times a week and I'm getting stronger and I think I'm even faster and quicker than I was."

During the spring, Carpenter posted a 4.31 forty time so, with that in mind, he's wanted to get stronger so he can beat the jam at the line of scrimmage that much easier.

"I like to think I can do anything a team needs me to do," Carpenter said back in May. "I can work the inside or stretch the field with my speed.

"I've really been focused on my footwork because that helps you set up DBs and it helps you get separation and that is what makes the difference for your QB."

As a freshman, Carpenter posted 65 receptions for 1,188 yards and nine touchdowns while earning First Team All-Western States honors and he's been named a preseason All-American as well.

With offers from schools like Arizona, Wyoming, Washington State, Minnesota, Boise State, San Diego State and Nevada, Carpenter already has some solid schools to choose from, but it's his offer from Arizona State that has him intrigued the most.

"They've got a great program there and coach (Dennis) Erickson wins everywhere he goes," Carpenter said. "I know they have a really good QB there (Rudy Carpenter) and they are wide open in their offense.

"I also know a couple of guys up there on the team, so they are definitely a school that I'm really liking a lot at this point."

Carpenter noted he isn't close to making a decision and that he plans to take all of his visits before he commits.

"I have a lot of time to think about things," Carpenter said. "I need to find a place I feel comfortable at, one that I fit in the offense well and one that I think can help me get moved on to the next level."

Carpenter will be able to sign in December with whichever school he decides to commit to and he'll have three years to play two the moment he steps on campus.
