Dean helps pave the way for Coffeyville

Coffeyville is loaded on both lines, but the man who anchors the Red Raven offensive line is OT Jarve Dean (6-3, 330). The man-mountain who hails from Houston, Texas had a big freshman season and he's already got plenty of schools with their eye on him. He updated recently about his offseason as well as what he looks forward to this fall...

After a standout career at Kashmere High School in Houston, Dean was recruited by schools from across the south and west, but he wasn't able to get a qualifying test score, so he headed to Coffeyville to continue his football career.

"All of the coaches up here are great and I just felt the most comfortable here," Dean told between meetings earlier this week. "It isn't too far away from home, but it was far enough so I actually felt like I was out on my own."

As a freshman for Coffeyville, Dean started at right tackle and he was dominant, mauling players on running plays while possessing the necessary footwork to stymie even the best pass rushers.

"I think I'm a good run-blocker, but honestly, I can be better," Dean noted. "I was in the weight room all summer, just getting myself ready for what is ahead. I was also doing footwork drills to make sure I kept my leverage and got the right angles."

Dean boasts a solid 340 pound bench press as well as a 5.1 forty time and schools from across the country have taken notice of his athleticism and size.

"I've got offers from Memphis and UAB already," Dean said. "That was cool because I really wanted to play at the next level and now I know that I can do that.

"Oklahoma, Arizona and Kansas have also talked to me quite a bit, but none of those schools have offered me yet.

"I'm open to everyone. I mean, I really want to focus on my season, but I'm going to take some visits and make sure I make the right choice for myself, so I'll see what sort of time frame I want to take before I commit. It will be a while though."

Dean is on pace to graduate this December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.

This weekend, Dean and his teammates will take on Navarro to kick off their season.
