Harbor's Matthews off to a good start

Big wideouts who can run past and through defensive backs are a luxury every school is looking for and L.A. Harbor WR Chris Matthews (6-5, 210) is proving size and speed do matter. He's off to a huge start so far this season and while he's already gotten on offer, he's hoping to hear from several more prominent schools regarding where he stands with them as well.

"Things have been going well, but I only have the one offer from Akron," Matthews said. "Oklahoma, Oregon, Kansas State, Arizona and Nevada have all been in touch with me though and they all said they really like what I have to offer.

"I'm a patient guy, so I'm not really that worried about it right now. I know my numbers will speak for themselves."

Well, if Matthews is relying on his numbers, schools are hearing him loud and clear.

So far, in three games, Matthews leads the Seahawks with 25 receptions for 327 yards and two touchdowns and that includes a huge game last week against Santa Ana where he posted 10 catches for 149 yards and a score.

"That game was tough because it was so back-and-forth," Matthews said. "They beat us, but I think we played tough and learned some things.

"Having a QB like Andrew (Trudnowski) helps my numbers a lot because he's good and he makes it easy to catch the ball and make plays. We'll get it turned around."

This weekend the Seahawks will take on Golden West on the road and then they'll be at home the following weekend to take on Southwestern before their bye week.

We'll continue to track Matthews' progress over the coming weeks and update things as they change.
